    Missing Prop Spacer

I recently purchased a used Skeeter with a 2004 VMAX 150. After having it out a few times I noticed that the splined spacer on the outboard side of the prop shaft was missing. This is the spacer inside the prop nut and washer and fits up against the prop. The prop was lose and had about 1/4" play. Obviously the prop was not torqued to the specified amount. I did not run it again until I purchased and replaced the spacer. There did not appear to be any noticeable indication that it was missing, performance wise. Prop shaft spline does not appear to have any damage. I have no idea how long the previous owner ran it this way. My question, is there any damage that could be caused by running the motor this way? Is there anything I should check or inspect?

WOW, I can't understand why someone would not notice that sooner. I sent you an IM. Visually check it thoroughly for any type of cracks or bends. If you purchased it from a boat dealer, you might want to get it back there and have them check the insides of the lower unit.

It amazes me too. When I purchased the rig, I changed the lube in the lower unit. No metal or indication of damage there. I bought from a private seller, so I may take it to a local shop to have it looked at. I visually checked spline for damage and shaft runs true. After I replaced spacer there is no end play in the shaft. I have to say that it runs and shifts smoothly.
