    Engine dies in idle

I have an 02 250 VMax that keeps dying at idle, usually when its out of gear. It runs fine opened up but keeps dying at idle. It idles at about 750rpms according to the tach, sounds fine, then just sputters and dies. Re-starts just fine... Any ideas????

you may want to try and idle it up just a tad. it should be between 800 and 1,000 rpm's at idle.

Re: Engine dies in idle (patillod)

My 1990 150 proV idles at 400-500 rpms when it's warmed up and seems to do OK. I'm guessing mine should be a bit higher also but I'm not gonna mess with it as long as it's not stalling out. I do have to bump it up to about 900 rpms when I first start it up though, just to let it get warm.

Re: Engine dies in idle (headhigh)

i guess i could idle up a tad. maybe the tach is not reading correctly. is there any big harm to getting the idle a little too high? also, i don't know if this helps any, but it seems a lot worse in warmer weather...
