Yamaha/Merc battle in the new B&WB mag this month.

The Merc guys are crawling in their panties... They are the first to call BS.... But they sure puff out their chests if Merc was on top huh?

Conner, I bet you could buy the mag at a gander mountain faster than I could find a way to e-mail it to you. Or next month it will be on their web site I bet>>> http://www.bwbmag.com/

You could tell it was choking John Tiger to say the Yammie won. Lots of talk about the black motor not being right. I'm thinking you invite me to a run what you brung dog fight, I'll be ready to rock and roll. Also, we know Paul has posted 111 mph in the past. On the other hand, I can't stay close enough to see the finish line..............

got my magzine issue today, and i loved it, go HYDRO-TECH ! ..yea the merc guys wined that SOMTHIN was amiss, and if i read correctly the merc was supposingly had little more power...an get this, the hydrotec yammie got better fuel milage at every rpm recorded from start to finish than the merc, motors were placed on same model boat...i love it !! , thats what i always liked about bass and walleye boat mag, they test UNBIASED , for the better or worst, no matter what it is ,boats or motors, fishin line, batteries, it dont matter to em , they just give the results

And just think...Hydro-Tecs HPDI's are crankin out alot more ponies than the one in the article! If they had one of the 370 hp HPDI's they would of beat that 335 merc like a baby harp seal!

Has anyone noticed that Yamaha and Evinrude hasn't advertised in B&WB lately? Mercury has all sorts of adds compared to the other two. I wonder if they are feeling the pie plate emptying

Re: Yamaha/Merc battle in the new B&WB mag this month. (Darth VMAX)

Am I the only one that caught the dyno readings? Simon dynos hp at the prop shaft for HP and HT dynos at the powerhead... So at 10-15% loss through gearing and transfer, The HT motor might have 300-310 hp at the propshaft... Makes you go hmmmmmmmmmm.

Does anyone really think that the Simon motor was actually sick? Do you think Simon would let that particular motor leave the shop to be tested in B&WB against a yamaha w/o being dynoed on the strong side and running like a swiss watch? I have my doubts...

That's what I'm saying. No way would they run a sick motor for nat'l magazine comparison. Good point on the HPDI comment as well.

I want to ask you guys if ya'll noticed in last months B&WB in the Bullet test where they posted the top speed number even though it was out of the manufacturer's recommended WOT rpm? They never would do that when Yamaha's WOT rpm max was 5500. At 6000 rpm the Merc/Bullet ran 96.5 and at 6250 it ran 101.4......

also noticed where they commented on the merc engine ran smooth an strong didnt seem sick, but coundnt figure out why i didnt run faster, happens all the time at dragstrip, excuses , excuses, i like when they challenge equally or close to equally engines power on same rig......now thats true results, you know simion probally had some trick stuff on there as well as hydro tech , but it dont matter...its who ran faster period !!

103 and 98 seems low for both motors. I would think that a Simons motor would run with a 300x...

Thanks it was a good test the merc ran a best of 102.7 mine 106.?? at fastbass.com rally in 07 .... at test the lake was short and was hard to get them to do what they did....more than one driver drove both boats .. these #s were on radar not gps...if the merc was running right it still would have been slower.....just not as much the what ifs and monday quarterbacking we could have really smoked the merc bad with more testing..... the sportmaster had been on the less than a week a total of a few hours run time and had two props on it we have changed the set up since and it wouldnt even had made a story the spanking would have been so bad....we called Simon and made several attemps to get the merc up to par it just want quite right it was fat .. Both these motors are bad to bone but the Hydro Tec was the champ and has the title belt .... there was no excuses for yamaha or merc it was all powerhead vs powerhead same prop same boats the Strokers are a excellent platform for horse power the Stroker realy likes the power..... its amasing that a boat that big wide boat will run like it does...

I have discounted some of the testing in bwb in the past...some of the things that i think or thought wernt right like 0 slip props for example...taking the stamped pitch on the prop as word when it could be worked and be a higher pitch....Hats off to BWBs John Tiger..... I was there first hand they do it all by the book and the print results good or bad as much as we wanted to get the boats to run there best (both of them) the lake just wasnt long enough...

after the test we put a 3.3l HPDI on the BLACK Stroker boat thats when we got the 110+ speeds and 1/3 BETTER FUEL MILEAGE than 3.1l ....Wayne Worthy owner of Hydro Tec put a 3.3l on his personal boat a 2008 Stroker and got 114 out of it....Ill have to get a 2009 to beat that #

Good account of the facts Paul!! We had a great time in FL doing the article! We do have another article coming with the 3.3L verses the 3.1L Phase III and the fuel economy is very interesting
