    150 VMAX ethanol question

Finally burned all the original gas out of my new (to me) motor. Was told to run ethanol free, but all I can find is 93 octane. Now on the other hand, I have been told ethanol won't hurt as long as I continue to run ring free and startron additives. What would ya'll suggest?

My 150 carb hated it. Tried to never use it. The big prob with eth is it attracts water and the fuel/eth seperates over time. As long as it isnt seperates you good and it will not hurt. If you must use it i suggest buying it from a station that sells lots of fuel on a regular basis. The longer the fuel sits in the tanks at the station the better chance it has seperated and or attracted water. I haul fuel and have worked for a fuel/oil company for years. I know from daily experance on the water and on the job exactly what eth does to engines.

High octane gas burns slower, causing more carbon buildup.....I buy 100% gas when possible in my Yamaha but when I can't I treat it with Marine Stabil and run on down the lake. I honestly never notice a difference but the gas never sits in my tank much more than a week or two.

So are you saying to use regular gas and treat it? I just get confused because I hear it go both ways.

My 150 is 12 years old and I have always run gas with ethanol as I can't get anything else here. Run the 87 octane and treat it with startron and you shouldn't have any problems as long as your using your motor with regularity. Now if she sets for awhile I would add Marine stabil as well.

If you can buy fuel without ethanol thats what you should use. Use ring free plus in every gallon. Forget all that burns slower burns cooler makes more carbon its all B.S. Skip the ethanol and all its problems.

listen. buy what you want. but if has ethanol treat it. i have same motor and year and not one problem. all i can get is ethanol fuel and i treat it with ring free and stabil at every fill up. i also change my water seperator once a year. proper routine maintenance goes a long way for longevity....

You guys need to fire those people making your laws and mandating all fuel sold have ethanol. Even here in corn field Iowa we have a choice. bpNClgmouth if it was my choice then yes I would run the 93 before I would run the ethanol.

I treat both fuels....100% gas gets Ringfree....ethanol gets Marine Stabil and Ringfree. No issues.

Ha, thanks for the responses. I agree we should have the choice. But as you can see from responses you can tell how someone new to this would get confused. I guess the safe bet would be to just go ethanol free. Thanks for the help though! I'll let ya know how she runs and hopefully learn how to get a picture up soon.
