    Help with 88' ProV 150 Rectifier/Reg Install

After trying 3 used tachs with no success, I assume I have a rectifier problem.
I put a volt meter on the grn and blk leads and I get a reading from just under 1v at idle to about 3v volts lightly revved. Someone told me it should be about 6v at idle. Is this true??? If the rectifier is bad, is it a diffcult install to do or should I have a shop do it? Doing it myself would be a much more convenient option since I have it store at my buddys lake house... I hate not having a Tach!

I was hoping someone would be along with advice about the rectifier. I don't know about the voltage numbers.

Use the parts link above to see your engine and how it's assembled.

easiest way to test a bad reg/rec

    start motor
    turn meter to a/c volts
put the meter leads on the battery
pos to pos, common to negitive
    anything over .8v is bad
    ez

    Thanks JIT!
I'll check that out and see what happens. Do you know if it is an easy process to replace on a Yamaha? I think I can do it if I don't have to take half the motor apart to get to the Rec/Reg. I wish it was still at the house so I could take a better look at it, but I just stored it at my buddy's lake house an 1 1/2 hours away.
