    Low Water Pick Up?

My F150 does not have low water pick up, as with many of the lower hp Yamaha engines. I am at the point where I can no longer raise the engine due to H2O psi fluctuations. Somewhere, I read about blocking off the upper portion of the factory intake screens to decrease air intake. It sounds perfectly logical. Does anyone have info or experience with this? I am seeking only an additional 1/4 to 3/8 lift.

The Merc owners do it all the time. They use machine screws to plug the top intake holes. I don't know of anyone who has done it to a Yamaha but I would think it would be possible.

They don't use machine screws... They use SS set screws I believe 5/16 in size.

Not sure what it would take for a yamaha LU.

Somewhere I read about blocking off the top portion of the Yamaha water inlet cover. Installing a true LW PU on my LU is overkill.

Well, I blocked off the top section of the water intake grates, and it works. I was able to raise the engine another 1/2". Pressure actually increased and was very steady.

What did you use to block them off? Part # 12 above looks like it's for a lawn mower.

Re: Low Water Pick Up? (nmskeeter)

I removed the intake covers and filled the top section of the intake cover with epoxy. I simply taped off the cover on the front side and filled it from the back. The engine was elevated to the point were the top portion of the intake was sucking air. Seems to work quite well.

I'm sure at one time the previous link was good.

Oh well, this link is good. Parts 12 and 13.

Good idea, no need for me to try it though I think i'm perfect.

How did raising the motor work out?

It worked well for top speed, and gave me a few 1/10's of mph. I run a F&S, so at times I drop it back down in order to ski.
