Looking for a dual throttle system for Yamaha

I'm asking this for a good friend of mine. He recently purchased a Ranger Z-20 with a 225 Yamaha on the back.

He is looking for something that I am unsure exists. He likes the control in rough water that a Hot Foot offers, but also would like the hand throttle control for those really long runs he makes - the kind that would wear out your leg / foot on a Hot Foot pedal - kind of wants a "set it and cruise WOT to my spot" thing.

We found one made by a company called "In-Control", and it's probably the best looking one I've seen yet - but very pricey. There is an adapter for using hand and foot throttles - but the hand throttle will never be able to be used past 90% (big drawback). When he called them, they also explained that it is only made for Merc products, as it is a "pull" throttle, and Yamaha and others use a "push" throttle system.

He also found one from Land and Sea, and we believe that one may be Yamaha compatible, but we hear it's only a 90% at the hand also... so he is calling them to find out.

Anyone know of a system that will allow him to use both foot and hand throttles at 100% with this Yamaha engine?

    Thanks in advance.
    All the best,
    Glenn

Re: Looking for a dual throttle system for Yamaha (ricostreet)

Ricostreet..... Lets just not forget they were pulled off the market because of sticking throttle issues. Or else I would have had it on my boat in 2003.

This might be an option for him, But expensive >>> http://www.thmarine.com/product.cfm?PRID=191

Re: Looking for a dual throttle system for Yamaha (21XDC)

glen i seen some wear that there is a hot foot with a spped control you can set
to the speed you want jsut like in your vehicle i will try and find it and post the site

    some info

    In-Control

Known among offshore outboard racers and custom-boat aficionados as the ultimate custom foot throttle, the In-Control unit (part No. 100-FTR) is as trick as it is pricey. Listing for $239, the In-Control, pictured on page 58, is unusual in that it employs a special cable to operate the engine’s carburetors or EFI throttlebody shutter. As such, it’s only compatible with Mercury outboards or those with a “pull-to-open” throttle setup. For installers, this is not a first-timer’s setup. It requires modifying an existing control cable by cutting off the end, removing the stock stainless control wire, and carefully inserting the wire aircraft rope cable that’s supplied. This is not as easy as described, and requires patience and skill to perform the surgery correctly. In addition, the setup and adjustment require skills that backyard mechanics may not possess. The throttle works on a heel hinge assembly, which, when combined with the smooth action of the wire rope cable, makes this a precise and easy-to-operate mechanism.

Finally, a hand-control adapter is available (part No. 300HND, $88) for modifying any stock hand control to work in conjunction with the foot pedal.

    LAND & SEA

Land & Sea’s Dual-Action Foot Throttle has been around for at least two decades and is still offered in the same basic configuration as when it was introduced. Selling for $249, it can be used in conjunction with the outboard’s original hand controls. This is handy for those who cruise long distances at partial-throttle speeds, as constant foot pressure on a spring-loaded foot throttle can cause fatigue. Like cruise control for cars, Land & Sea’s dual-action feature helps maintain constant speed without constant pressure on the foot pedal.

Careful hookup and setup are the keys to making this connection work smoothly, however. Land & Sea recommends its Low-Friction cables for this purpose. Selling for an average of $35 (depending on length), they’re priced competitively with stock cables. The Land & Sea throttle can be used with any outboard brand, although special adapters may be needed to complete the hookup.
