What information can a tech easily get from connecting a HPDI motor to a diag machine? Can they tells me total hours used? Any issues/alarms? Compression for each cylinder? What other information can they get? Can they print this out for the customer?

The Yamaha Diagnostic System software will tell you everything except cylinder compression, and yes it is in a printable format. It breaks down total hours into 1000 rpm blocks, so you can see where most of those hours are spent (i.e trolling, cruising, WOT hot rodding, etc....).
If you have your own laptop you can buy the YDS for yourself. It only works on the Four Strokes and the HPDI motors though.

I know when I bought my used '04 250 the mechanic knew exactly how many times the engine had overheated and at what rpm, hours and the highest rpm the engine was ever run at.

But if you get a YDS report that says the motor has 1000 hours on it and 800 of those hours are at WOT, with 300+ rev limiter hits, you might want to pass ..... LOL
