    Hard Starting VMAX 200

Looking for a little assistance. Just bought a "new to me" 1997 Skeeter with a Yamaha VMAX 200 that the dealer had just replaced the powerhead on. It is very difficult to start first thing in the morning, but starts first turn after it has warmed up. Any tips or suggestions???

Don't have a solution, but same problem 2006, 200 HPDI, dealer replaced powerhead, stalls 4 or 5 times, when cold, otherwise runs good.

Are you using the choke correctly? Turn the key to the "on" position, lift up on the choke button under the key (or wherever it is), and then turn the key to "start". It should start, but may die out...but if you think it's going to die, hit the choke button once for just a second, and it will/should continue to run. You may have to hit the choke two or three times before it runs closer to normal.

On my old ProV, I used to turn the key to "on", hit the choke button seven times, then start it.

The choke is built into the key switch. Should i try all choke first? It doesn't seem to want to kick for about 5 minutes.

Push in the choke "while you crank" Keep it pushed in until it starts. Keep it pushed in until it starts to choke out. Then let off.... You may need to bump in the choke a time or three to keep it running. This is only needed on the first start of the day. Sometimes the choke is not adjusted at the motor to close enough while using the electric choke. It can be adjusted to solve this.

Make sure you pump up the primer bulb before you crank.

On mine, the choke solenoid wasn't set correctly from the factory. In the winter (yes we fish down here when it's cold ) it was a bear to start. Adjusted the solenoid, and it fires up easily now.

This worked perfectly today. Kept on the choke the whole time and it started right up. Thanks for the tip.

No benefit by holding the choke in, unless your cranking at the same time.
