    Yamaha c-90 Overheat alarm.

I have a 1992 Yamaha C-90 that has had the alarm go off several times when running 5000 RPMS or more for more than a few minutes. The water pressure is good and water pump is only about a year old. When i put my hand in the stream coming out of the motor it is warm but not extremeny warm. Could this be a faulty thermostat.

I would clean out the poppit valve look at the top of this forum for info.

If you've owned this engine since new and never replaced the thermostat, I'd do that also.

Is this something that I can do myself or is it complicated.

the thermos should be on each cylinder head. it'll be a little plug w/ a brown and a black wire runnin to it. disconnect the wires and pop the thermostat right out or unbolt im not real sure which way. this should work if its like my dads 115 yamaha. if its not the correct way, im sure someone will come right along and set me straight.

I believe you're thinking of the temp sensors. The thermostats are usually close to them, but no wires.

Mine was doing the same thing. Change the poppet valve and I think your problems will be solved. They only cost around 20 bucks. The pictures on the top of the thread show in on the bottom of the heads but mine was on the top of the cylinders.

Always use new gaskets, they're cheap. Use the new style mushroom headed poppet valve available at the dealer. New thermostats and new style poppet valve and I think you've about covered it.

Best place is probably Central Florida Yamaha ( http://www.Boats.net). You can always call their parts department to talk about the parts you need as well.
