If it's just tiny shavings (more like metal dust) gathered on the magnetic end of the plug there's no need to worry. You are going to get that with normal wear and that's the reason the plug is magnetized in order to pull that stuff from the oil. Now if you ever pull the plug and the oil is milky looking it has water in it and new seals are in order. If you pull the plug and water and chunks of metal pour outyou have a much bigger problem.
the lube was a very dark brown color. i use the green Merc LU lube

Yes, this is completely normal... There will be a little metal from normal break in, and also the shift lugs are made to wear a little with every shift. The harder the clunk when shifting, well the greater the chance of wear. I've pulled the plug on several lowers, and for the most part, all have had metal of some sort on the magnet, (which is why the magnet is there, better on it, than floating around your gears).. I'd say, keep up on your maintenence get a good prop with a smooth shifting hub, and keep the r's while shifting low...
Good luck..![]()
