2007 hpdi 225 overheated in grass

First day with newly rigged motor. I clogged the intakes completely with grass but I did not realize what happened until after I got back to the dock. The overheat warning blinker had been blinking from the first time I started it, so I did not think anything of it. The warning horn got my attention. One beep. I had no water pressure.
I turned it off, waited a minute and when I turned the key back on, before I turned over the motor, the horn was continuous. I pulled the cowl and burned my hand on both side of the motor.
I let it cool for twenty minutes, started it with no alarms and idled twenty minutes back to the ramp.
What's my next step? Can I just flush it and see if I have pressure again? Do I need to check for a burned up impeller? Are there more serious possibilities?

You should check the impeller and do a compression check.

If it indeed got "that hot." Have it checked out on the Diagnostics Computer for "Codes".
A motor overheating for a prolonged period of time can cause Serious damage.
HPDI 's are notorious for overheating with their Low Water pick-up.
My HPDI just smells hydrilla and it starts getting hot.

When I was doing the compression test, I got a constant alarm starting after the engine turned over and not stopping until I turned the key all the way off. Is this normal?
Compression was good, 118,118,118,120,118, and 118

Do you have the small lights on the dash for overheat and oil alarm indication? You certainly should not be getting a heat alarm on an engine that's not running. You may have melted the sending unit in the head.

Today I fished on the trolling motor, but started the engine to load the boat on the trailer, with no alarms.

I have the basic digital tach, (not the command link), and the temp warning bar blinks all the time. It blinked all day the first day I had it. The oil indicator on the tach is supposed to show three bars, full, medium and almost empty, but when I turn the key on only one bar blinks for a second or so and then goes out. My not understanding what exactly is going on with the gauge is partly why I let the engine get hot enough to set off the alarm. I kept checking the tell tale and thinking it must be getting water. Now I know better.
I am going to order a water pump, and new plugs, now I'm wondering if I'll need to add more to my order.
