    Fuel Additive Oppinions/Questions

I have posted this in the lounge in hopes of soliciting more responses, but as you know, not many topics last long on the first page in the lounge. your insight will be appreciated.

Well these questions have risen with me because I recently lost the powerhead on a 2004 HPDI. As a result, I have decided to run some kind of additive in every tank of gas in the future. My mechanic says that he highly recommends the use of Ring Free, but he also points out that Ring Free is only a fuel system cleaner and is no way a fuel stabilizer. He also adds that today's fuels are breaking down as soon as 15 days and with that considered he also recommended the use of a fuel stabilizer such as Stabil in every tank because you never know when your boat is going to sit for a couple of weeks or more between uses.
I have often seen the debate on this site as to which is better; Seafoam or Ring Free. After looking into each product I have found out that Seafoam is not only a fuel system cleaner (like Ring Free), but it is also a fuel stabilizer which kind of gives it an advantage over Ring Free I would assume.

This is where I would like to get the opinions of you guys. I took a little time to look up fuel additives and have found quite a few that seem to do the same thing. I would like to hear your experiences with any or all of these products and why or why not you would chose one over the other for long term use.

Seafoam Fuel System Cleaner & Stabilizer
Mercury's Quicksilver Fuel System Cleaner & Stabilizer
    Starbrite's Star*Tron
    Power Research Inc.'s PRI-G
Pennzoil Fuel System Cleaner & Stabilizer
    MDR Stor-N-Start

Or would you go to the expense of running Ring Free in combination with Stabil.

    Re: Fuel Additive Oppinions/Questions (Herbert)

I only run SeaFoam. Firm believer in it sinse I had O2 sensor problems. Have had no problems at all after I started using it on a regular basis.

I did try Ringfree before I started using Seafoam. I can honestly tell you I could see no results from the Ringfree. After my first 'shock' treatment with Seafoam, the motor ran better and better each time I went out. Now it is back up to full rpms and runs great.

Im sure you will get different opinions here, but I am sold on Seafoam.

Used seafoam for the very first tank and every tank since! I don't want to try anything else cause it works so good! Why take the chance! My boat will sit for months and I never change the gas and it starts up and runs with no problem.
