    No power to engine

I have a 115hp 4-stroke and have a power problem. I have cleaned the battery contacts and have good voltage at the wires from the battery. However, the engine will not turn over at all and the Trim and Tilt switch is dead. Power to all the accessories (radio, horn, bilge pump, etc.) is ok. I am getting ready to pull the cover on the engine but am not sure what to look for. I thought I would start by checking for voltage at the where the battery leads are attached to the engine. But am not sure where to go after that...are there fuses in the engine I should look at? The problem seemed to first occur when the boat was just sitting on the trailer...one day I could work the Trim and the next day it was dead. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. Mike

It sure sounds like a fuse to me. You can use the parts link at the top of this board to find your fuse. There is probably a spare one attached next to the fuse holder. Follow the wiring from where it enters the cowl and you'll soon find the fuse.

See my post... not having the trim problem, but no power on initial start...

Checked voltages and they are all good. I think I have it narrowed down to the ignition switch. I am getting voltage to the solenoid with the key in the off position. Is this right?

Re: No power to engine (dirtmonkey)

Dirtmonkey you'll always have 12v power to one post on the solenoid. When you hit the start position on the key you close the solenoid contacts and get voltage to the other post of the solenoid and that goes to the starter.
I'd get a digital multimeter and trace down the incoming voltage. It sounds like that 30 amp fuse is blown.

Re: No power to engine (BuzzB8)

Thanks...it was the 30amp fuse. And there were spares attached. So now I am back in business. But what would cause the fuse to blow? It was on the trailer and I was using the trim and tilt but it didn't blow while I was moving the motor...I was checking on it a couple of weeks later and it was dead. Maybe just one of life's little mysteries...I do recall charging the batteries and checking its voltage so maybe I did something then. Thanks again. Mike
