    HPDI -150 what prop?

While looking at the yamaha parts web page I see for my HPDI - 150 that shows I could use a 25" prop? Is anyone out using a 25" prop? I have a G3 HP180 and last weekend I borrowed a 24" and was running 5800 rpm and 57-58 MPH. I normally run a 23" yamaha.

I had a 150 vmax carb. on an Xpress X18. I was turning a 25 tempest and it ran very well. 5600 rpms to 64mph (speedo).

There are some people that are running 25" props on their 150's. Try one and see what it does. Some said that they lost a few MPH's and stayed with the 23". Wont know until you try. Mine came with a 23" but would like to try a 25". Don't know anyone around town here that i could borrow from.

    I would try a 23 Tempest or 23 TXP. A 23 TRO4 is a good 4 blade.

The 23" I am running now gives me supper hole shot, when I tried the 24" I didn't loose much on the hole shot. I know that with the 24" the boat was up on the pad more than the 23"

What kind of prop was the 24P? You want that motor running in the 5800-6000 range. You may turn a 24 OK if you jack up the motor a lil' bit more water pressure pending. Your at 16-17% slip with that 24 you ran. Too much I think.

I borrowed a 24" Michigan and I was turning 5800 RPM. I made no adjustments, just switched out props.

I have a 150 carb on a 190 skeeter with a 25m. Would turn 5400, had Mark blueprint and now turns 5600 with full tanks and two 250lb men in boat with all tourney tackle. Great improvement and lift after Mark worked the prop.

I live in MI and those are not good props for performance.... Was it a ballistic prop? Those are the best ones from MI wheel.

Jbuck, do you have a jackplate? If not what speeds are you seeing (before & after prop work)? Have same boat but no jp. Turning a 23 @ 5800 (max) 60GPS.

Re: HPDI -150 what prop? (21XDC)

What is the temp up there right now. 50-60 degrees???? You probably still need the 23. Because in the summer you are gonna loose rpms due to heat. I would go with Mike Lohn on this. But you could probably have a 23 prop tweaked by mark and get a little more speed out of it. I have a 23 Tempest that has had the cup taken out of it (don't ask I didn't do it) and it will run 61 on my boat. But with out the cup if it ever looses bite you can't hardly get it back. Point being you should be able to run around 60 with the 23.

Re: HPDI -150 what prop? (nosaj2)

If fact, I have a 22p prop that's been worked by a local shop, that I will guaranty it will run 58 gps. And you'll come out of the hole like a screaming banshee! I had it on my boat until it got broke in good and then it stayed pressed up against the rev limiter all the time at WOT. But my boat is lighter than yours. And I try to fish light. I got 10 rods and reals but I don't keep stuff in the boat that I haven't used in 6 months.

If you are interested send me an IM.

Yea, I have a TZX190 with 12" jackplate. Haven't gotten gps speed increase numbers yet but speedo went up about 3 mph. Boat has super amount of lift after Mark blueprinted also.

Put my boat away last weekend getting very cool and water temp around 40 deg. I watched your movie of your boat and was impressed with it being on pad.

I am running a 25 tempest on my 186 with 150 hpdi. It came with a 23 tempest but I was running high rpm at wot. gps. with the 23 at around 59 mph. Changed to the 25 and droped the rpm back to 5500 max but gps at 62 mph. Give it a try. can't hurt.

Is their a difference in the gas milage between the two size of props? Where is a good place to get a 25 yamaha prop at a good price?

Re: HPDI -150 what prop? (lepps50)

If you can't spin a 24 but to 5800. I don't see how running a 25 is gonna help. A yamaha prop 25M is a lot stiffer than that michigan is. And like mike said if you were only running 58mph then it was slipping a lot! Going up in pitch is going to most likely make it worse. You may get 1-2 mph out of it while loosing rpms. This will probably hurt your mph because the motor is under more strain.

This is what I suggest: Find someone on this board who has the exact same set up as you. (check the owners list) contact them and first make sure they an't crazy and claim to get 70mph out of a 115hp with a 19 pitch prop. Then pick their brain. Find out what kind of load they carry and how weight is distributed. Find out prop and water psi and rpms. motor height and jackplate setting. I would not go up in pitch until I could turn the prop you have at least to 6000 rpms.
