    Engine Oil Tank

I have a Yamaha 150 ox66 1999 model. For some reason the engine oil tank will not stay full. The oil tank (remote oil tank) stays full. I have to add oil to the engine oil tank every so often. Can someone tell me what to look for? Bad wire or something? It electronic and its not pumping. Thank you!

The engine oil tank will not stay full all the time. Once that tank reaches a certain level it pumps oil from the remote tank to the engine mounted tank. Are you saying yours will not do this? Have you tried the manual pump switch mounted on the engine?

It got to the low level and the warning buzzer came on. I tried the pump switch mounted on the engine and that doesnt work either. Took it to a dealer and they looked at it. Said its the electronic pump and maybe the float sensor. Should have the parts in next week ($300). I could just carry some oil with me and when it get low take the cowling off and fill it back up. Ha Ha. Anyway I hope this fixes it.

If they replace both (the sensor in the main tank on the engine AND the pump) I'd question them to prove why both! My best guess would be the sensor is bad.

    Re: Engine Oil Tank (Cubsfanbassfan)

Had the same exact problem with mine approximately 3 months ago. Took it to the shop four times before they finally got it. Luckily they warrantied it. It is the pump(motor) in the oil resorvoir on the boat. The pump in the bottom of the tank has gone bad. Mechanic told me that pump motor get stopped up with junk and causes the pump to go bad. When the oil gets low up top, the pump in the oil res on the boat pumps it up and when it don't shoot it up top, the motor thinks it's running out of oil therefore making the warn buzz go off. If you trim your motor up the buzzer will go off right? I originally thought sensor was bad also, but that wasn't it. Mechanic said it's similar to a starter, it has bristles on it and they have gone bad.Once they replaced that pump (motor) whatever you want to call it, it solved the problem, mine has been doing great so far.

With key switch turned in the on position hold the gray toggle switch in the up position and listen for the elec oil pump motor to run. If you can't hear it running put your hand on the side of the remote tank and feel it to see if is running. If it's running you could try to replacing the filter. There is a very small filter on the inlet side of that oil pump. It doesn't take much to clog it up. The oil tank will need to be removed to change the filter.
