Excess oil under cowling, 2004 150 carb

    Have a 2004 150 carb yama.

I keep getting a lot of excess oil under the cowling after running for 2 hrs. or so.

I know its yama lube, but cannot seem to see where its comming from, When I remove the cowling It can be seen puddled up in the nicks and crannes under the motor.

I took the silencer off and there was a lot of oil which I drained from inside the silencer. The drain line on the silencer was open and not stoped up.

Could I possibly have a bad check vale on one of the carbs ?

    Any ideas,

    Bill Granade

Are you sure it doesn't happen overnight and only does it when it's runnng? If it happens overnight, then it could be a bad check valve in the oil pump. Sometimes they don't seat very well and the oil can run by.

A quick fix is to remove the oil lines from the pump to the carbs, place a tiny drill bit in the pump holes (up-side-down), and give it a gentle tap with a small hammer.

If it's still under warranty, take it to the shop. Let someone else fix it.
