    Fuel/water separator question

I've bought the Yamaha fuel/water separator to install for my 250 HPDI. It looks like an oil filter. The Racor model's I've seen have a glass bottom. My question is how do I know when to change the filter with this setup? If you happen to get a tank of this new ethanol mix that has too much water in it, what will be the indicator?

Re: Fuel/water separator question (Kelly Denham)

Yamaha has two different model filters. Their top of the line filter is made by Racor and has the bowl on the bottom. I would take the one you got back and go get a name brand Racor filter so there's no question. With what you have there the only way you'll know there was too much water in the fuel it will be too late.

    Yamaha and Racor filters....

Can you use the Racor filter on the mount that Kelly has? My boat came with the exact filteration that Kelly has...is it just as simple as ordering a replacement filter from Racor and unscrew the existing one and replace it?

One last question...since the Yamaha one doesn't have a see thru bottom like the Racor, how do you know when it gets water in it? Seems like it might be the same as the one I have?

Sorry just trying to understand all this filtration stuff...it was much simpler before ethanol ;)

    Thanks.

That's the problem with those oil can filters, you don't know unless you empty it out into a clear glass jar and examine it.
Yes the 32013 Racor will fit the same mount. You can find them at West Marine or Bass Pro or online.

The yamaha one in the picture hooks up to the Mulitfunction gauges and tells you if you have water in the bowl.
