Luke once a year I take my boat in for routine maintenance which includes changing the LU greese and impeller.
I'd find out if the engine had the 10 hour service completed on it. Any Yamaha Dealer can tell you if the service was performed, as long as it was done by another Yamaha Dealer (database access). If not, I would have it done and then you should be good to go.
i know it hasnt had the 10hr service cause it was a demo and only had 5 hours on it when i got it as a demo
It is required at the 10 ht interval and than once a year or 100 hours.
I'm a stickler for maintenance, and probably go overboard, but I change mine at the end of the season, and then again about half way through the season (about three months). I change it at the end of the season so the gears sit all winter in clean lube. I change it again mid season so I can check for water in the gearcase. I also take this time to inspect the seals, check for fishing line on the shaft, and change my plugs. Changing the lube is cheap, and gives me the peace of mind that everything is okay. I also replace the o rings on the oil drain plugs every time I take them out.

Goodness! Now that's who I want to buy a second hand outboard from. You don't happen to have a truck for sale? I'm in the market for a new one.![]()
