    OX66vsHPDI

For those that have had or have both of these motors give your opinions as to which is the more reliable motor.

The ox66 is/was a bullet proof motor...very reliable. I think the new HPDI is better than previous generations...Your fuel economy (HPDI) will be much better than that of the ox66. I went with the last year of the ox66 because I think it has some more intestinal fortitude than the HPDI....but that is just my 2 cents.

had problems with my 2004 225 0x66 and am currently having an 2006 225 HPDI rigged on my boat - should be done in a week or so. I have high hopes!

I have had both. The EFI is great. I bought the HPDI and I love it. Now about the milage, the HPDI gets better milage 4500rpms down. Run it at 5800 plus and it drinks like the rest of 'em. I do like the 1.75 gears in my HPDI better. Can't go wrong w/ either. (IT TAKES GAS TO MAKE H.P.)

I have 99' 225hp ox66 with 100-150 hours nothing wrong with it.I know I'll replace it later and was looking at motors and found 04'250hp 0x66 didn't know if its worth getting it or HPDI.

The HPDI is much better on fuel!! In my ox66 running a gunning in a Tourny I would burn at least one tank of fuel, with the HPDI I burned 1/2 of one tank, I think the savings in gas will ofset the price difference!!

My friend has 1999 OX66 beats the hell out it. He just replaces water pump and plugs runs great. Mine is 2004 I think this motor is race proven thats why I bought mine. I know its outdated HPDI or 4 stroke is modern but Iam old fashion and dont want any problems.

I had excessive smoke and intermittant vibration - no pattern - in and out for service several times - finally upgraded to the HPDI
