For any of you unfortunates (myself included), how does Ethanol effect your engines?
For any of you unfortunates (myself included), how does Ethanol effect your engines?
I was wondering the same thing. I see a lot of little rubber hoses.
Most of your newer engines are made to except this type of fuel up to 10%.
Our wonderful governor just signed a bill forcing fuel in Minnescrotum to be 20% ethanol by 2013 - he is not a republican (although he claims so) but rather a liberal in disguise!!!!!!. My guess is he is a closet Peta member too!
Don't these idiots look at the big picture?
If I read the operators manual correctly ethanol will not harm the outboard up to 10%. DO NOT Methanol Blend - not much around. Ethanol has less BTU's so top end performance and mpg will be lower but it reduces our needs on foreign oil and helps the American Farmer! Ethanol is helping increase the price of corn in my area and is helping the American Farmer. Corn prices are about the same or below 1930's prices - nothing else we buy is so I'm for ethanol and SoyDiesel! It burns cleaner, too. We complain about fuel prices but both of these products can reduce the amount of fuel we import plus help the American Farmer make a decent living.

Doug,
If the big corporations would stop buying up the little farmers I would agree, but they have thier hands so deep in this, the farmers and us are the real loosers. And if this knumbnutz of a governer we have here would understand the damage the forced 20% ethanol will do to all the existing motors we have ....![]()
I can't afford to buy a new boat, car, or truck every time some poloticial gets his pockets padded.
Next, they'll make owning a two stroke illegal, not becuase of the emmissions (they got that fixed), but becuase of the amount of oil it consumes - bad consumer, bad - no boating - go straight to your room![]()
Oh, well - If you can't beat'em Idle yer noisy diesel PU next to their outside press conference - I DO![]()

I am part owner in a Farm Equipment Dealership in Missouri that my grandfather started in 1952 and behind ethanol and BioDiesel 100% it's good business for the farmer. The biggest reason farmers keep getting larger is the capital expenses it takes to farm today. You have to run large acreages to justify the costs of $200,000 Combines, $100,000 tractors, $100,000 Planters. The cost per acreage for a small to medium sized farmer is not justifiable. The other hing is there are less and less young farmers unless they are family. This the number one reason we cater to the cattle farmer as they have the ability to have a profit off smaller acreages. An ethanol plant 20 miles away has increased the value of corn 20 cents plus per bushel. When farmers make money they spend money and is the backbone of the American economy. The up swings and down swings of the economy fall just opiosite of the farm economy. This can be contributed to the filteration of dollars the farmers have pumped into the general economy. Watch out the farm economy is on another downhill slide look for a recession in 2 to 3 years, unless the farm econmy picks back up here soon. I did a research project in college and it this data correlated exactly.
For those who do not feel farmers are necessary, remember who grows your food one American Farmer feed close to 130 people. They really are our backbone of our economy.![]()

Doug,
Being raised from a samll town community and having a brother and several relatives running farms (mostly dairy) I appreciate and respect farmers. I do not wish any demise of them.
My problem is that many farms are being bought up by big corporations through forced tax defaults and other communistic means. Not to mention the loss of fuel economy that results in an equal rise in emmisions..20% less fuel economy, so you burn 20% more fuel and produce 20% more emmisions - most of the economy does not benifit - heck, many engine failures are a direct result of this forced product and suffered by those who cannot afford newer engines - so they loose -go on welfare - you pick up the tab and the big corporations win.
I know this is very generic in description, but I for one don't believe that the human population can be so errogant as to believe our >3% influence over global warming has an impact on the real global warming instigator... the ocean -
this could be debated to extream depth, but I'm very glad to hear that farmers in your area are prospering - at least someone isn't getting the shaft.![]()
