    Re: 250 SS (TBirck)

The engine is a common power head for Suzuki that is used in many areas. The 250 SS seems to run just under the reputable 2 strokes out there, and without oil burn. The top end will be just under a two stroke, and we like the dependability of a four stroke engine. Especially on those long term financing deals we see too often today.

Overall we like the engine. There is a bit of slippage in the gearcase at top end, that will necessitate placing the proper propeller on the engine to control slippage and RPM limiters.

The gear ratio is rather awkward and will require a large pitch propeller, very large by comparison.

So we like the engine, and we think it will revolutionize things a bit as Yamaha will eventually bring out a VMax four stroke, and BRP will be dependent on the ETec 2 strokes. As for Mercury, what direction they take on 4 stroke vs. 2 stroke is yet to be established. The redesigned Verado is nicer than the previous nice Verado, though is heavier than all above engines also. Honda remains to be a bit player in bass markets, and the others will play out this story together.

The choice of this engine would not be a mistake, and the end user would be happy for a long time. We have one new in NC at High Rock Boat Dock in their inventory if anyone is interested.

just under 580 lbs is not bad ---plus you have to add the oil tank on a 2-stroke 3-gallon or more is common so actual weights are even closer than you think. Its a sweet engine and has power --not that far off the 2-strokes but almost their -- torque is very strong (4 litre engine and a 2.08:1 gear) as said you will see some tall props 28-32 pitch on some boats. I was even thinking of going with it now on my boat. I haven't ran it but trust 2 others who have run it.
