    Bass cat trailer hub question

    Hello all,

I'm pretty new around here, but I've been bass fishing the California Delta for six years and still have much to learn. I am getting out of my aluminum boat and into a dedicated bass boat. It looks like I will be landing into a 2007 Pantera Classic with 191 hours on the 200 Opti.

I have a question about the hubs though. The trailer is a tandem axle. I have had axle and hub problems in the past so I am sensitive to the issues that can arise out of them. I did not see a quick or easy way to lube the hubs. It appeared that I need to take the wheels off to take the decorative hub cover off and even then I am not sure what lube system is used. I asked the current owner about it and he is not a hands on guy. His solution is to take it to the dealer every so often. I prefer to stay on top of it myself.

Can anybody advise on how to best lube Bass cat trailer hubs?

    Thank you.

You'll find out Bass Cat doesn't do anything without a reason. The wheel bearings on that trailer should only need servicing every few years, so what you'll find is under the dress cap, when you pull the wheel, there is a bearing buddy. Don't use it. Manually tear down, clean and inspect the bearings. Grease, re-assemble and you'll be good to go for another few years. Most bearing problems are cause by over greasing and using grease guns. People end up blowing out the rear seal and then they have problems. BC uses a double lipped seal and you'll find out if you follow their direction, you shouldn't have any problems.

Yep...my trailer hub manual says only service every 5 years. Unless if you have the extended warranty, then it's every 10 years.

Bearings repack? in BassCat FAQ Archive Forum

Wheel bearing question in BassCat FAQ Archive Forum

Those two links will take you to the frequently asked questions board on the Basscat boat website. I'm sure there are other posts on the forum addressing bearings but those two hopefully will answer your question. Lots and lots of good reading in that forum which will probably answer 99.9% of all your questions you may have about your Cat.

Congratulations on getting yourself a Cat! Would love to see some pictures of it when you get it home.

We do not suggest lubricating the hubs through the grease zerk. Break down, clean bearing grease, repack and reassemble with a new seal. We suggest every three five years, unless it were ours then we might go seven with monitoring the temps.
