    150SS hole-shot

Does anyone with a 150ss feel like their hole-shot is very sluggish the very first time of the day? For years I haven't been able to figure this out. The first time in the morning (even after ample warm-up) my boat is very slow to come out of the hole. The rest of the day it will jump out! I use different props so I don't think that's an issue. I'ts got to be something in the electronic management system. I couldn't be happier with my take-off as the day goes on but this initial problem sure stumps me. Anyone else notice this problem?

Sometimes mine is sluggish the first take off of the day, then it runs like a champ the rest of the day. I think it has something to do with the carbs loading up. I would not worry about it, these older engines are not perfect but they do seem to run strong forever.

I'm not even going to call this a problem but just a symptom I've experienced for a long time. I find it interesting that my hole-shot is so good after the first of the day however. It will really jump out the rest of the day! Have you ever found a way to work around this? Fast idle? anything? It's never caused a problem because most ramp areas are deep enough that a little lag doesn't hurt. I don't know if I could get up in real shallow water this first time however.

I really don't try to do anything with it then just idle out to were I can go and then go. Like you said after the first time it is done for the day. During the hot months it is not much at all but when it is cold the first take off of the day can take a while.

I've been running them for years and always had the same problem. I believe they load up before the first run. You may try going to a hottor plug. I've tried different jets in the mid range, tried adjusting the idle jets just does not make a difference. I have even played with the timing adjustment, still no difference..
Post if you find anything that will help....But when they run THEY RUN!!

My 89 115 does same thing.I think all the unburnt gas and oil drains down to the bottom cylinder, crank case, and loads that cylinder up until you do the first blast off.

My 150 SS also is a little slow for the first hole shot of the day. The lake I fish has about a quarter mile no-wake zone at the ramp and I get a lot of smoke first thing. I think the oil/gas mix is oil heavy at first and the carbs load up. After the first hole shot no more smoke and good hole shots for the rest of the day. All in all I am happy with the motor, a 1987 and it gets me and my 20-foot nitro anywhere I want to go plenty fast. Certainly not worth the cost of a new motor for one better hole shot per trip.
