    Trim Reading Issue

    Purchased a used 2006 186 with a 150 Optimax.

I just noticed that the dash mounted trim guage works backwards. When the motor is up it reads down and vice versa.

Everything from the guage to the unit on motor appear to be factory, but something is not right!

    Any help?

    Re: Trim Reading Issue (rollcenter)

Either you have the wrong sender on the engine, OR, the dash gauge is one designed for a Johnson/Evinrude Engine (which operates backwards).

    Re: Trim Reading Issue (EuropeanAM)

All the guages match, all the guages also have a "factory" style plug, not a terminal post with a terminal on it. I would guess youare correct by saying the sending unit is wrong. Any identification on unit to let me know for certain?

There MIGHT be a part number on the wire lead set for the sender.... (possibly).

    One other method of identification:

Test resistance between brown w/white stripe wire and GROUND while the trim system is at:

    -FULL DOWN position:

-Full UP position (as far up as you can safely raise the engine):
