i'm new to boat owning here. I have a merc 175 pro xs. what kind of oil should i use some say merc oil but i use yamalube in my wheelers and others swear that is the best 2 stroke oil for any motor. i here quick silver is good too. what is your opinion.
Recommend oil is Mercury/Quicksilver Opti/DFI oil.. Your 175ProXS is a Direct Fuel Injected motor and not a conventional 2 stroke. Also using Quickleen and Quickare fuel additives would be a good idea..
went to a boat dealer on tippicanoe and got some lower uint oil and aslso was going to get some of the ethanol treatment that mercury makes but holy smokes! 11.00 dollars for a 16 oz bottle? he told me not to use seafoam anymore , too much alchol? is that right? also, i can't get my lower screw out even with my biggest screwdriver to drain the oil. any tips sherm? thanks again..karol
Not Sherm.... but I strongly recommend the use of Mercury Quickare and Mercury Quickleen in EVERY tank of fuel (that's also the FACTORY recommendation).
SeaFoam is a good product, but you are correct in that it does contain IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol).... which we'd prefer to not put into the fuel system.
You may need to obtain a larger (appropriately sized) screwdriver, OR an Impact Driver (screwdriver) with a hardened bit.
