    wet sanding idea

Got around to wet sanding and removing the oxidation on my new to me Champion 181dc. I read on these boards that it is a good idea to add a little soap to the water to keep lubrication. I had an empty laundry detergent bottle, so i filled it half way with water and it works great! When the paper and sponge gets low on water, just use the dispenser to add more water to the sponge.

Have you tried polishing your boat first? I use a foam bonnet on a dual action Porter Cable polisher. If that doesn't work, go to a rubbing compound that'll work with a D/A polisher.

Sanding of any kind is a last resort.

Meguiars has a car/boat detailing forum that discusses such subjects. You can also Google "boat detailing" and come up with other websites with good info.

I had pretty bad oxidation on the top cap of my boat when I got it, but not much after the rub rail. I did as you're suggesting on the sides of the boat and it worked great. I think the black got too faded and there's not much hope left for it. Either I try more sanding and polishing, or I put some anti slip tape where the black paint is. Either way it looks better goin down the river, lake, or road.
