    Help with a 1991 Mercury 100HP 2+2 system

I would love to get rid of the 2x2 system on my motor. I live in Alaska and try to run the boat year round but a motor that only runs on two cylinders in these temps doesn't work well. My question is if I pick up two carbs that match the upper two carbs can I just change out the bottom two carbs. I realize that they will all four need to be adjusted and synced. Will that convert it into a normal running motor or is there more to it? I appreciate any help I can get thanks.

I would not recommend this. Although your theory is correct.... I've seen it tried (and the engine simply won't idle down properly).

The 2+2 system should work fine... but you may find that you have to increase the idle-air adjustment screws OUT (counter-clockwise) 1/8 to 1/4 turn on the upper two carbs (with today's fuels).
