    Compression Tester???

What type / model / MFG (if you have a direct link, that would be awesome) compression tester to you recommend for these outboard motors (1999 200EFI 0G803436)?? As I have zero knowledge of past maintenance or hours on this motor...I thought it might be good to do a compression check along with all the other stuff I am doing I presume how to check compression is listed in the repair manual??

    Thanks,
    Tom

    Re: Compression Tester??? (Lockon)

There are many options for compression gauges. All the main tool companies such as Snap On,Mac etc offer them as does Craftsman and you can probably even pick one up at the local auto parts stores. Just need one with a 14mm threaded tip and around 150 psi gauge

    Re: Compression Tester??? (Lockon)

This is how Don recommended me to do my compression numbers:

    -Engine warmed up FULLY
    -Fully charged, properly rated battery
    -ALL Spark plugs removed
    -Kill switch in OFF position
-Plug wires on spark tester (or grounded- an added precaution)
-Throttle plates at WOT (Wide Open Throttle) position
    Thanks

An added test that will give you a great look at the ring/cyl condition is a leak down test.
