    question about temp sensor

    I have a 40 mariner ser#0d218712 my temp sensor is bad. Part #12415 i ordered a new one but it doesnt look like it will fit it goes next to sparkplug on top cylinder. I didnt want to open it if its not right its got alot bigger nut than the other one. Its the only part number i can find only the sierra part looks like it is the right size.I ordered the quicksilver part.

    Searching Mercurypartsexpress.com with the serial number you provided shows this as the temperature switch on your engine....Part# 16775A 3

    Correct. Part# 16775A3 is the Temperature SWITCH (for warning horn).

    Where did you come up with the part number you ordered?

    12415 is for the sensor not switch. I also found 12415A 2. I think i may need the connector and T i think this is a retro from what i have. I got all this off mercurypartsexpress.

    12415 is indeed an "optional Temperature sensor/sender" for use with a Temperature Gauge, with this particular serial number.
