Hey guys looking to purchase a 150 optimax how many hours are these engine capable of running until they need to be rebuilt thanks mark
Actual engine hours are relative, and not NEARLY as important as is "How the engine was RUN, Treated, and Serviced DURING those hours".
I've seen these well into the Thousands of hours (over 4000 hours in one case)... and I've seen them trashed completely with very little runtime.
Strongly recommend the following:
-Compression test (better yet, a Leakdown Test)
-Computer Diagnostic Printouts of Run History, and Freeze Frame (Fault) History
-Gearcase Check (fluid quality, propshaft runout, shifting quality)
-Maintenance History (and current NEEDS) review
-Test run on the water to confirm proper operation.
More "engine specific" information may be available if and when you obtain the engine's serial number.
