Fuel/water separator filter removal

I'm trying to remove the fuel/water separator filter on the VST, but it's is not possible to unscrew it. I'm using a screwdriver in the slots on top of the filter, but it just won't loosen up, and I'm afraid of getting to aggressive and break the red plastic cap.

Are there any tips and tricks I should know of?

Obtain Part# 896661 (this is the tool to remove the filter).

Makes filter replacement a breeze.... and the tool is quite inexpensive.
