2012 250 pro xs break in - Don

I have been reading your recommendations on break in. I see that you recommend the quickleen from the first tank. I am guessing I should start running the cocktail from the beginning...

I just had a tech tell me I should not run the quickleen until after break in.

Also how much DFI should I be prepared to buy for the break in process. Thanks!

Run quickeen every time you add fuel along with a Stabil. You will use a lot of oil the first couple of hrs and then it will dwindle down till 11 hrs.Ive had 2 ProXS and both used about 2 gallons during break in.. I keep plenty of oil and top off after each use.

If you follow the break-in recommendations "to the letter"... the "additional oil delivery" will usually cease somewhere between 1.25-2.00 hour mark.

The "Break-In Clock" only counts down when the engine is above 3500 RPM's, trim tucked, and engine under heavy load.

Amount of oil consumed will vary, based on the load/RPM's and your driving characteristics. Simply recommend that you have a couple gallons of DFI oil on hand, and top off the oil tank at each fuel fill-up.

Thanks Don. Do I keep the trim all the way down for break in, or is there a range to stay within?

You should be at no higher than "level" trim (preferable to remain tucked... although in some cases, this results in an operation angle that's simply not good for your boat hull).

See Owner's Manual (and the following post) for further details:

my 2012 225pro xs has 12 hrs on it now',I have been running quick cleen every tank,it seems to still be useing more oil than my 06 pro xs,I am still having a problem on takeoff?,when I throttle up slowly the motor bogs/hiccups/stumbles for a lack of a better explanation? runs fine at higher rpms, wonder if I could have a fouled plug ?

That is certainly possible, especially if the engine has any substantial amount of LOW RPM operation time during those 12 hours.

I'd actually recommend a fresh set of IZFR6J plugs, gapped at .044" before searching too deep for problems (other than covering the BASICS, and Computer Diagnostic System Printouts, of course).

As for the increased oil consumption... would be interesting to see when the last "Break-IN Strategy" fault was logged.
