in reference to poppet valve question below

Temp was spiking from time to time so I replaced waterpump...my question is it is still spiking so was curious if it could be thermostat or where should I go from here? 06 225 pro xs

Also has good stream & good pressure...most of the time it does it while cruising but times after a run when I'm idleing in back of cove it will spike till alarm goes off

    Thanks ahead

Mine did that at idle a few times - if I goosed the throttle (forcing additional water through the poppet valve, I guess), the temp would drop back and behave.

I replaced the impeller (wp was good, but it was just time to do it), tested the thermostats (good), checked the screen for cooling water to teh compressor (clear), looked at the poppet (good, but the spring was coated with fine soot), replaced the gaskets between the powerhead and the midsection and between the midsection and the lower housing (both were compromised).

Some combination of these steps fixed it, I'm thinking replacing the gaskets.

    Gary:

What is your water pressure AT IDLE after a good run?

I'd recommend checking the thermostats (inspect for debris in them, holding them open), AND the poppet valve.

Sometimes, the poppet valve's GROMMET becomes distorted, and causes the valve to HANG where it doesn't fully seat. This causes a leak (especially noticeable after a good run, when the adapter plate is hotter).... dropping water pressure enough to cause "idle overheats".

Could swear someone has posted awhile back about a similiar problem that had to do with that gasket between power head and mid section. The description of the problem sounds similiar to me. Wonder if someone could find that post.

Powerhead or adapter plate gasket leaks are also a potential with this problem.

However... it would make sense to rule out the much simpler "externally accessible" items FIRST (before yanking the powerhead and adapter plate).
