thanks to all who has helped me (don, old geezer, crimson gambler) A great thank you to Don at european marine who has saved me a substantial amount of money for a service bill. i have closed the book on my 02 tr21 w/250 proxb. i bought this boat and was only getting 71gps and now i have 80 gps and still tweeking. among going thru the entire fuel system i have found one problem i never thought about. Last weekend before i went to the lake, i was reading on here about the lower units being sheared off and decided to check all the nuts and bolts on my motor. now keep in mind i couldnt for the life of me figure out why i wasnt getting much lift out of my boat. i figured it out!! the top two bolts that secure the motor to the jackplate were loose. both nylon lock nuts turned 4 complete turns before tightening up. went to the lake and Presto!!! i have lift. Just goes o show you that a little maintenance can go along way!!!!! thanks so much to everyone.

Don is very knowledgable. I had him go thru my 2004 250XS, & he found out quite a few things that most of us would never think about. These ain't like the old 2.4/2.5 motors.

Glad you caught that, it could have ended up in your lap.
I would replace them all, i reuse them all the time but i think the spec's say one time use.

Take a good look at the following post (recommended maintenance). Although it was written for an Optimax engine.... most everything listed applies to yours also (with the exception of references to the air compressor filter).
