I need help Rusty or Seahorse

Hello Gents, I have been having some trouble with my 1991 E70TLEIE. I was previously advised by rusty to rebuild my carbs due to the fact that the motor has been sitting for about 1.5 years. That is done but now the motor does not want to idle and on the rare occasion when I do get it to idle at approx 1000 rpm once I try to shift into gear the thing bogs down and dies. Could this be a timing problem? I have installed new plugs, rebuilt the carbs and engine tuned the motor. Any help would be great !!!

I did the rebuild on the carbs with a mercury mechanic that is a friend of mine. The compression is good across all three cyls. The only way I can get it to run smoothly is with the cold start lever. Thanks for the fast response. I am not sure where to turn. We did not have the proper tools to do the timing here at my house but with the carbs being so terribly gummed up we thought the carb rebuild would take care of the problem of no power.

Did you flow cleaner thru every hole and passageway to make sure it was clear. Most idle and acceleration problems are carb and linkage related, but a stuck timer base or scored cylinders can give the same symptoms.

There was a discussion about leakdown tests and even if the compression looked good, a leakdown test would show if there were scored cylinders and pistons.

What timing spec is it set at when the carbs start to open? Does the motor come up to temp the way it should, about 125-145 degrees?

Did you pull the Main jets from the bottom of the carb bowls?

I am with Seahorse, check the carbs again, sounds like you may have missed something, also check the ignition and cylinder head temp.
