    2005 225 Pro xs

I'm looking at a boat with a 2005 225HP ProXs. What is the difference in a proxs and a regular opti? I compared them on the Mercury website and the only difference noted is the max rpm range is 6000 on the xs and 5750 on the regular opti.

On the 225 ProXS, differences include (but are not necessarily limited to):

    -Block porting
    -Cylinder Heads
    -Fuel Rails
    -Direct Injectors
    -Engine Mounts (primarily uppers)
    -Spark Plugs
    -PCM Calibration
    -Reeds
    -Gearcase

The ProXS is substantially stronger- better holeshot, better mid-range "punch", and stronger top end. ProXS puts out an average of approximately 247 at the propshaft.....

Thanks.......what about the difference in fuel consumption between the two? and dependability.

Almost no discernable fuel consumption difference (the ProXS has a VERY slight edge on fuel economy).

Dependability essentially identical (with a few plus marks to the ProXS, such as the carbon fiber reeds being less likely to cause major engine damage if one fails, etc).
