    Thermostat

All the information that Don has posted hopefully saved me today!
Fired the Merc up this morning, the Merc monitor went up to 120 degrees and off I go. Fished all day in shallow water, when I got ready to head back to the ramp, checked out the Merc Monitor and the Temp was 98 degrees after idling for 5 minutes while putting my rods away! I had a limit, so I had to take my chances. Ran back to the ramp at around 3000 RPM and was worried the whole time! By the way the Speedo wasn't working either!
When I got home, it was driving me crazy! Took off both Thermostats and sure enough, both of them had small pieces of wood lodged in them holding them open!
    Hopefully I didn't hurt anything!??
Have to order to new gaskets, but Mercury Parts Express doesn't show my Engine S/N.

Don, I read other posts and it looks like the Fuel Rail Nuts are Torqued to 35 Ft Lbs and the Thermostat bolts to 18 Ft lbs? Do I need to reapply lock tite on the Thermostat Housing bolts?

By the way, I won the tournament and had big fish!!!

    Re: Thermostat (Triton77)

You'll need TWO 8503181 gaskets (one for each side).

When entering your serial number on the website, make sure you display all "letters" in CAPITALS. Lower case letters may not be accepted.

Rail nut torque is 35 ft. lbs.

Thermostat cover screws: Blue loctite, torque to 100 INCH lbs.

Good catch on the temps.... glad you won the tourney. Hopefully you avoided any permanent damage (it's best to not accelerate at ALL when engine fails to come up to temp).

Email Rhonda if you need to order gaskets: http://www.bbcboards.net/zerothread?id=531508
