Oil leak from I dont know what!

On the front starboard side of my 2003 250 XS there is a part with an aluminum housing and a bunch of small lines going to it and it attaches to a bracket from 4 points that have rubber grommets. Oil is leaking from the housing where small allen head screws attach to it, can anyone tell me what this thing is.

I believe that is the oil pump..I had the same issue when i got my powerhead back from Eric Simon. Seal was just off alittle bit..oil was coming out of the same place you described.I sent it to him and had it back in a week or so with no more problems. If you decide to take it out take your time and remember where everything goes for reinstall. Kind of a pain in the ars. I could be wrong though.

That is indeed the oil pump.

A picture.... and a serial number, would make further assistance or advise more "specific" to your situation.

DO NOT run the engine again until this has been corrected.

Serial # OT653036, I dont have a picture of it and the boat is in storage but oil pump seems right as there is one larger sized line that runs into the center of it that is definately an oil line. The leak is really more seepage than anything but you can see the oil has ran off of it for a bit. I just cant tell what part is leaking or where from as it looks to be well sealed. Whats the fix for something like this?

Tough question to answer since we still don't know the reason for the leak....

I'd check every line that's connected to the pump for splits, holes etc. That being said and if all check out as good, you can then assume that your oil pump may have blown a seal. There should be a vent hole in the oil pump housing, if oil is coming from that then it's time for a new oil pump......

If you have access to a DDT, you can run the oil pump without running the motor and attempt to visually find any leaks.........

    Roland:

The BEST means to determine what you need is:

    1. CLEAN the suspect areas WELL with engine degreaser or detergent. ALLOW TO DRY COMPLETELY.

    2. Obtain some Lotrimin Athlete's Foot Spray. Spray down ALL suspect areas well (it leaves a light white powder on the surfaces).

    3. Utilizing a DDT, or the Computer Diagnostic System (dealer only), run an OIL PUMP PRIME sequence while watching for the powder to wash away anywhere. Any leak will be READILY apparent.

    4. Repair leak appropriately, wash away powder, and completely dry.

    5. AGAIN, PRIME THE OIL PUMP to remove any air.

Note: When requesting parts information, it's VERY important to provide your engine serial number.
