    Water Pressure Increase

97 efi 0g584347, hit stump with lower unit, i replaced it with a newer style lower unit "with water pick up in nose cone" my water pressure was around 12 but now its about 20 and bouncing all over the place while running wot. Is it going to hurt anything on my motor?

    Re: Water Pressure Increase (nobody2u)

When adding a low-water style pickup gearcase to an EARLIER design engine, there WILL be a NOTABLE water pressure increase.

If RPM's, performance and handling conditions allow, try RAISING the engine in 1/4" increments, but keep your water pressure AT OR ABOVE 18 psi for safe measure (15 psi minimum for this gearcase design).

So running the new style gear case at 12 lbs is not good for the lower unit or motor?

Correct. WOT water pressure with low-water type intake gearcases would be an indicator that the water supply may be aerating (starving water pump and engine of proper cooling media).
