    Best Way...

... to disable speedo water tube on 2009 225 Opti [Serial #1B698683]? Replaced speedo with a MercMonitor & don't want water shooting out from the open tube... Currently capped off at the console end, but what can be done easily on the engine end besides sticking a toothpick in the pick-up?

How did you cap off the end under console? I am about to install a Merc Monitor myself and will have the same issue.

Capped with a small plastic tube cap about the same size as the speedo tubing w/zip tie added & may super gule the thing too - but would like to just disconnect it at the engine... Opti's are new to me - but on my old EFI you could see the speedo tube coming up from the lower unit....

The appropriate way to deal with this would be to disconnect the small black pitot tubing INSIDE THE ENGINE COWLING (it's currently connected to your speedometer tubing), and then RECONNECT IT to the pitot sender INSIDE the engine cowling. You'll note the sender in the below picture... it's brass colored, and located just below the starter.

The one in the picture is currently "disconnected" (not connected to the sender).

Thanks for the advice Don - and for the picture

    - So, the water being pushed up from the lower unit is currently connected to the speedo tube running out through the rigging tube & I should find that connection, disconnect it & connect the same tube to the top of the brass pitot sender?

    - By the way got the MercMonitor & Fuel/Oil Harness hooked up just like your pic based on your prior advice. Hardest part for me was getting all that new harness through the rigging tube... I'm getting full readouts on the MercMonitor and everyting on my HDS-8 via the network [except oil tank level] - I get both fuel & oil levels on the MercMonitor - but only fuel level on the HDS-8? I may need to change the configuration from 'Single Engine 1-tank' to 'Single Engine 2-tanks' on the Lowrance?

Correct on the pitot tube.... the SMALL black semi-rigid tube simply slides into the open end of the sender (push in firmly, then give it a light tug to make sure it locked into the retaining collar).

On your oil level.... which VERSION of the MercMonitor do you have (Level 1 or Level 2)?

You would definitely need to have your HDS 8 configured for two tanks.... but we should definitely check to ensure your version can actually export both tanks before spending a lot of time on it....

Thanks for clarifying. The Level-2 is capable of transmitting Tank-2 level over the NMEA-2000 network.

Check the settings on your GPS to confirm that it's looking for TWO tanks.

If the problem persists, you may need to change the settings in the MercMonitor for the oil tank. Essentially, you'd specify it as "Tank-2" rather than oil, and manually set it's capacity to 3 gallons.

OK - Disconnected the speedo tube & reconnected to the brass pitot sender as per Don's instructions

But.... Found this lying in the bottom of my engine pan (225 Opti w/9.5 hours on it)... What is it & where does it go Appears to be a cover and looks like it had some sealant on the inside??

That appears to be the cover for the FRONT cover latch (inside the TOP cowling, front latch bracket).
