This job pays as much as......

Tom pays his photogenic kid. I've been working early mornings and late nights filling in for the mooderator here on the shutterbug forum answering.......well....um..... one question in the past week. This is way to much like work so I'm taking vacation for a week. If this place is still on the boards when I return, great. If it fails, it's Paul's fault.

I'm headed for FL. Paul get your delete post button warmed up.... I'm headed for Daytona and Bike Week.

Actually no... Ive been there before and never had a problem plus the harley guys would never and i mean ever be able to catch me anyways . My bike whatever it is will do that thing called turn....

Bottom line for me is im still bikeless. I had a grand plan to buy a new 1200GS this year and then i test rode a Ducati Multistrada and a Triumph Tiger 1050 yesterday and now im all confused... The Ducati is a really sweet machine and i think i want one. I need to do more test rides first tho....

I can't help you man. Not a bike person (except dirt bikes). Good luck and make sure you get us some sweet shots of whatever you pick up

Re: This job pays as much as...... (RoadrashPaul)

I will when i finally decide to pull the trigger. Right now im really leaning to the Ducati. The Sport model is unreal, im really impressed with it. I had the fin of testriding one for like an hour and a half yesterday.

It has the ability to set 4 different modes. "sport" "touring" "urban" and "enduro". The modes set the engine power/feel, suspension, aps and traction control. Suprisingly it really seesm to work. In sport mode the engine makes 150hp and its a rocketship and it handles great, in touring its also 150hp but buttery smooth. Urban its got 100 hp and in endure mode its also 100hp with more low end grunt.

Im impressed with how the different modes made the bike feel. In sport it will flat out eat my old Honda Intercepter 800 for lunch both in turns and in flat out speed, its not even a contest. In touring mode its much smoother than my honda was and the honda was by a lot and the honda was pretty smooth. In urban its very nimble and it rides like a smaller bike, i really never liked my honda in the city because it felt too big and topheavy for city driving. This bike rides like a scooter in the city(with a lot of power) unlike the honda which was hard to ride because it didnt like going slow.

Im impressed enough with this bike to almost forget abotu the BMW, i know what im getting there and the Ducati is the better bike for only slightly more money.

you woudnt expect a bike that looks like this to be able to eat up a sportbike but it will

    sounds awesome.

I've had several bike myself. Started on a street bike (500cc). Moved up to Honda ACE 750cc, then onto a Yamaha Royal Star 1300cc. That baby would flat out get it.

That Ducati looks WICKED, sadly I bet those saddle packs are about worthless. The BMW luggage may look sad but it's functional. I could actually go for at least a weekend with the packs on my old Geezer Glide. If I would have kept it long enough to get serious a pack for the back seat would have really been the ticket.

To each their own. Hell all of them beat what I am riding these days.

I'll check back when I get done rallying to see what Richard comes up with in Florida.

Re: This job pays as much as...... (JohnM)

Actually John, those bags are much bigger than they look. They hold 58 liters combined and a full face helmet will fit in them. They are bigger than the ones i had on my GS when i had it. i could never get a helmet in the ones on the GS, these the sales guy showed me that mine would fit and it did easily with room to spare. They sell an optional larger set 73 liter as well as a rear trunk that will hold 48 liters (2 full face helmets) and a tank bag. Really if i do get one of these an i want to go on a long distance tour i don't think space will be an issue as i can really configure it to hold a ton.

I did a Boston to Vegas and back on my old Honda V65 Sabre and the factory luggage held a lot less then these do and i managed just fine with that, a tank bag and a duffel bag strapped to the rear seat. Fun trip and my 85 Honda was the only bike of 3 that didn't break down on the trip....
