    newby

I would like to buy an old 35mm with an assortment of lens etc. I would like to take bird pictures primarily. I don't want to spend alot until I see its something I really like I am considering retirement and want something else in addition to fishing. I have been looking at ebay and sometimes they have these bags full of goodies lens etc for $100.00 is this something worth trying or shy away? Any suggestions appreciated

Do you have a specific brand in mind? I have a digital 35mm (film) camera that I would sell really cheap if you are interested. It is a Minolta and comes with a lens. Here is my post.

Sorry, didn't even answer your question. The deals on Ebay are probably OK. The problem is with digital now there is really not a market for film, except for the few that still like it. You should be able to get a pretty nice kit for what you are wanting. If it were me I would buy a cheaper one for now and if you like it and find it is something you want to pursue, then I would go digital. No film to mess with and unlimited pics. You can take as many pics as you want and if they don't turn out good, just delete them. No money wasted on film or paper.

Don't buy a film camera for starters...cost waaaayyy to much for developing when your learning to shoot. An older DSLR by Canon from Craigslist or Ebay can be bought from $200-300 with a lens. If you want a 35 mm film camera, I'll give you a Canon Rebel...takes great shots. I bought it new just as the DSLR's were hitting the market... I thought a $500 film camera would last me ...it's worth today on ebay .99

That is a very good decision. You won't regret it. Don't be afraid to ask if you need help

I have taken some pics with diferent lens settings so you can see the difference. I put an artificial bird on the feeder and set the tripod up 15 feet away. I used two zoom lens at different settings. #1 is 400mm, #2 is 200mm #3 is 120mm , #4 is 50mm and #5 is 24mm. This shows you what type of pic you'll get with different lens. I used a 70-200 f/2.8 and a 24-120 f/1:3.5. This may help you in deciding what lens to buy or what package to get from the online stores. Good luck!

If you want to buy a film camera, find you a cheap Canon EOS series film camera. This way when you decide to go Digital, you can use the lenses from that camera on a Canon DSLR

Don't be afraid to buy a refurbed DSLR either, if you're on a budget. I'd stick with Canon or Nikon for lens availability.

Thanks..... just when I finally give away a $500 35 mm film camera, you agree with a guy to not take it. The sooner I give this away, the sooner my wife stops reminding me about..."...didn't you spend like $1000 for that camera..." ....then the conversation leads to why did you buy the "black and white" fish finders then buy color screened ones..... she must of forgot about the $500 Magellian hand held GPS unit....and the $350 Escort radar detector, or I'm sure I would of heard about them too.

I will make it up to you...... all of the stuff you don't want you can just donate to me and I will dispose of it properly

My wife would probably love for me to have the radar detector..... I have donated my share of funds to the state over the years
