My dad bought a Nikon D3000 Last year....
His birthday is coming up, I thought I would buy him something for the camera. Any suggestions of what? He was always really big into 35MM photos, just getting into the Digital SLR thing now.

Any idea what he has for lenses right now?
I'd suggest a 35mm f/1.8 or 50mm f/1.8 for starters....

he only has the standard lens that it came with. AF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G
What does he like to take pictures of? Does he need more of a telephoto? It's not the best lens, but he may use the 55-200 telephoto.

55-200 is very versital, and nice for a reasonable price. I also like a fixed 50mm
Any kind of wildlife pictures, he is going to need a telephoto. You can look at the 55-200 or there is also a 70-300. Neither is a great lens, but they will be on par with the kit lens that he already has and will give him some more reach.
