    You guys ever wonder.........

if with all these recent recommendations/changes, i.e. spark plug gap, oil recommendation change, etc., that Mercury is using us for field testing?..........I'm not mad, love my Merc. so far.............just something that has came to my mind and thought I'd ask......I understand they are improving and serving us with better parts/additives for our engines but do you ever wonder what about the older motors that have been ran hard without these recent changes and what amount of time has been lost from the life of that engine by not knowing what was better for the engine?

In summation, you really have to be on top of things to stay up to date on these Opti's it seems

Disclaimer: I AM NOT MAD NOR DO I HATE MERCURY...........PLEASE DON'T BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF ME............just curious

It may be some truth to that.

    Dear Lab Rat:

I would like to thank you for your recent observations that the bait on the other end of the maze has now changed. You're very smart!

The bait change has been brought on by recent EPA changes... it seems that the bait we've been using for years is polluting the environment, and when consumed, has been giving off excess hydrocarbon emmissions.

Since 2003, we've been gradually changing the bait to lower emmissions output by a required percentage each year to meet the new standards. The current bait is now expected to satisfy your hunger- retain your interest and drive.... all while putting out 40 percent lower hydrocarbon emmissions. We've had to make the bait "lean and mean".... and are constantly working to improve how well it satisfies you.

And then the EPA decided to change the "fuel" we make the bait with. It's now corrosive... attracts water (who want's watered down bait), and when you leave it sit, eats the bait to pieces! Now that we're getting use to the 10% garbage.... someone in Washington thought it would be a good idea to approve 15%!

This is a constant balancing act... but we're constantly finding ways to improve how satisfying that bait is, all while staying ahead of the required changes!

    ------------------------------

Totally random.... of course, but I think you get the picture.

great points Don!.......I honestly didn't think of that......but my whole question was referring to the good ol' boy rat named Cuz that is retired, got the coins to buy a Merc., buys it, ain't got no puter to have great folks like you to help him out, and goes and runs some off the wall oil and runs premium gas in his 2011 250xs because his jacklegged mechanic, named Bubba, said it'd "make her scoot."

those folks are the ones I was referring to..........not the freakishly detailed computer havin', BBC addicted morons like yours truly

And even if you have the gadgets to keep up with the changes, it allways results in the same change for us. Less money in our pockets and more in Mother Merc's.
