    Boating etiquette...

This weekend a buddy and I were fishing and we were setting roughly 300' out off of a point when we had a guy come by on pad and ran between us and the point! First off we were throwing towards the point, so he basically ran right across our spot, secondly he was chine walking so bad that I thought he was going to loose it at any second and here we were setting there helplessly if he would of hooked towards us. Bad thing was there was only a 1/2 mile of open water behind us!! There's just no excuse to run that close to people, especially at those speeds. Some people just dont use their heads and have absolutely no respect at all for other fishermen out there. OK, Rant over, just wanted to get that out of my system.. lol.. I think I did good to do all that ranting and not once mention that it was on Brewer and the guy was fishing by himself and driving a burnt orange, brown and white Bass Cat

I think etiquette is something that is more of an occasional annoyance to us, and not a constant problem. Most folks show mutual respect on the water, and thankfully we dont have to deal with this sort of thing very often.

Is the driver someone you know, or just mentioning the boat hoping we know?
My son and I had a similar experience at Lake Maumelle. He was driving our boat over to the north shore this spring. We were on pad running 60. A couple of guys in a Blue/white Ranger with Merc 200 passed by us on the driver's side, then cut across us heading up to the Hwy 10 bridge. Close enough to wet the front deck with the spray from his boat. Scared me at first, then thought I would follow the a$$&ole and discuss his lack of brain cells.
Then I thought more about it and just talked with my son about common courtesy and etiquette. Hopefully a new generation can learn what some have forgotten.

Nope, dont have a clue who the guy was and honestly it didnt matter. We felt like you did, my first instinct was to pull the trolling motor up and chase him down.. But one, we just started fishing a spot that you just about have to take a number to get and I wasnt about to give it up And two I knew that if he had so little respect to do something like that all chasing him down would of done was start a cussing match and really wouldnt of done much good. The G&F came by about 30 minutes or so later and checked our license, insurance, and PFD's, I really thought about reporting him to them but I didnt. I didnt initially post this with the intentions of calling the guy out, more or less to rant and make everybody aware of being courteous on the water. Once I started posting it the madder I got and I just couldnt help posting his description whoever you were, just use some courtesy next time.

300 feet is the length of a football field. That's quite a bit of water. I've had guys run by me much, much closer than 150 or so feet. Didn't bother me all that much. On Ross Barnett Reservoir in MS, WOT traffic in the running lanes always create large wakes for those fishing points, pads and other structure near the lanes.

Sometimes, folks sit in the middle of the creek channel while fishing the waters off a deep point. They are, essentially, blocking traffic up and down the creek. Hope this wasn't the case here.

BTW, I drive a Ranger, not an orange, brown and white Basscat

Son and I were fishing Maumelle at the end of a main point on the North shore. Boat came flying up, saw us and proceeded to do a U-turn right off our stern. I explained to the son that is how not to act on the water. The fellow settled in to fish about 60' in front of us. I was tempted to say something, but up comes the warden and proceeds to do a proctological exam on the boat and driver, keeping him occupied for the next 45 minutes. Son looked at me and said "that's what happens when you're a jerk". It was a proud moment for me....

Nope, not the case, we had 3/4 of a mile of open water behind us. And trust me, if you had a guy run within a casts distance of you at WOT and severely chine walking you wouldnt be happy either, now just cruising by on plane might of been a different story. Plus not to mention that he ran right across where we were casting to. But anyway, I'm not going to beat a dead horse anymore, I've said what I had to say about it, we all just need to be more courteous out there.
