    300X - No water Pressure

I have a 2002 - 300X that seems to have lost virtually all water pressure at idle. Merc monitor is showing 0.3 PSI and guage doesnt move, pee hole is barely existent.

I replaced the Impeller and gaskets in the spring and it was starting to loose pressure so I replaced it again about three weeks ago but the new one did'nt seem to gain me any more pressure. Idle was 1-2 psi and WOT was 15-18 so was OK but cruising was under 10 psi, usually its a bit higher at idle and mid as a rule. Temps varied between 130 on the top end when idling and the stats were closed and 113-114 once up on plane and running.

Yesterday I idled out and it got to 150 with around 1 psi but was OK when up on plane. I then idled back in and it climbed to 170 with virtually no pressure.

I pulled out the stats they seem to be opening and closing properly. Took my Poppit apart and everything seems smooth and clean. Hooked the muff up to it and ran it with the diverter off to flsuh it out. didnt see anything.

    Tried it again same results

Checked impeller, shaft seal and all looks ok, no blockes between the side intakes and the impeller. I'm reluctant to rush out and buy another impeller kit

Anyone have any suggestions here ?

You're running a poppet diverter???? Which diverter do you have?

What size restrictor do you have installed in the "dump" line?

I'm using Erics Poppit diverter, everything was fine,

Not sure what your referring to by restrictor in the dump line. there is no water coming out the poppit at idle

If there is NO water coming from the diverter "dump" at idle.... you may need to go back and double-check the poppet valve itself.

Pay specific attention to the grommet and seat- ensure that the seat is FIRMLY affixed in the adapter plate, and that the poppet valve itself slides FREELY in and out of the grommet (it should not hang AT ALL when moving it straight in and out).

When you're 110% certain everything here is in order.... see what you have for Water Pressure. If needed, I'll be glad to pass on further pointers.

Don, I've never had water coming out of the dump at idle. doubled checked and the grommet and everything looks good.

If you supply a part number for the Poppert Valce I'll order new one anyways.

I am not a expert but I had the same symptoms on my 300x.... my PSI KEPT getting worse, checked all things stated , it ended up being a blown Tuner Gasket....

Mark: If you've replaced the water pump, and have checked the poppet over CAREFULLY, I think you're going to end up finding something similar to Brent's experience.

Powerhead gasket, driveshaft housing (and tuner) gasket, or a missing "screen" in the adapter plate (down inside the center of the adapter plate).

Re: 300X - No water Pressure (EuropeanAM)

I was thinking the same but was hoping for something simple.

    Don,

What are the part numbers for the gaskets I'll need for each side of the adapter plate and tuner ?

Will pull apart tonight and have a look and let you know what I find.

Re: 300X - No water Pressure (EuropeanAM)

It looks to be the gasket that Brent was referring to where the actual tuner bolts to the Adapter plate (???)

    Everything else looks good.

    Don,

I removed the power head and theres a gasket there between the power head and the plate, then theres another gasket between the plate and lets call it the mid section. Both of these gaskets look identical .

Then I took the tuner and Exhaust plate and unbolted the tuner as if you were going to replace the tuner.

I will need this gasket to.

My question is do I order 2 of 83293306 for each side of the plate that separates the power head and mid.

and then qty of one you have listed as the Adpater plate/tuner gasket will this one do for where the tuner bolts onto the Adapter plate ?

    Really appreciate all your assitance.

And Brent it looks like you nailed this one, many thanks

    Re: 300X - No water Pressure (onttr22)

You will order ONE of each gasket.

One is the powerhead gasket- and one is the Adapter Plate/Tuner/Gasket. Those are the two gaskets you will need- they ARE different, and they will look SUBSTANTIALLY DIFFERENT from the ones you removed (redesigned).

While you're there, you may want to also consider the following:

-Lower tuner to driveshaft housing seal/grommet (Part# 8329321)

-Water Tube Upper Seal (Part# 832940001)

    Check your IM's.

    Don,

Do you have a part # for the gasket for the tuner at the top where it bolts on ?

Sorry about all the questions but my dealers around here dont have a clue nor do they stock anything.

I consolidated the parts into one list for you above.

That's what you'll need.... and just to clarify, the Part Number: 832934006 Adapter Plate Gasket is between the adapter plate and the driveshaft housing. It INCLUDES the tuner gasket (it's covers all of the "ports" including the exhaust tuner).

Everything back together and water pressure is back to normal, it was definetly the Tuner gasket.

    Thanks

    Re: 300X - No water Pressure (onttr22)

Glad to hear it.... and just for anyone that might run into a similar situation in the future..... if you have the "alien style cowling" (with a 1/4" aluminum plate under the powerhead)..... TWO (quantity of 2) powerhead gaskets are required to complete this proceedure.

Thanks for calling me.... it helped to clarify what you were looking at.
