Mine was easier to take off the black trim around the opening and lift strait up. Easier with two guys, but I did it 5 times by myself with twine wrapped around for handles.

On my 21xd I get a strap around it, and pull it straight up.
The 20XD is a different animal.
Siphon as much fuel as you can get out of the tank. Then tape off the fuel fill and vent openings. Lift the back (live well side) of the tank up and pull out on a angle.. It is a little easier with 2 people till you place a few straps under the tank for future removals.
Be sure to ck/replace all pumps and hoses while tank is out.
Hope this helps
IF I remember it has to tilt up at the back down in front so the filler is facing foward, empty the tank , I just unhook the fuel line from the motor, and use it as a siphon, then plug the fill and vent, the 1st time is the worst, I do leave some rope around mine so getting it out is a little more easy, the first time you do it is the worst beacuse there is nothing to grip to lift the tank with.
Mine does not seem to pull straight up, maybe the 21's are different. Tried Lou's method of front of the tank first and hit on the fittings coming out of the livewells. Tried pulling the aft first and the tank hung up half way out.Must be like a puzzle that you all of a sudden hit the right combo. So far no luck.

If it is a older boat 4 years or older you might have to pull it up part of the way and rachet strap it to get it out, by rachet strap it, I mean put the strap in the middle of the tank and tighten it to shrink the tank enough to get it out! Note: be careful not to mess your fuel sending unit probe, or float up, if you need to sqeeze it that much you may need to pull the unit. The tanks swell up over time and make it a biatch to get it out!I hope this helps

Hmmmm, interesting as it is a 2000 and the tank is distorted looking, (not square).
Found this older post which seems to describe my setup:
Get as much gas out as possible. Don't run it dry with the motor. You may be able to siphon it out when you get the hoses off. The extra weight makes it harder to remove. On the 20XDs the tank has to be flipped up on the front side. Even the 25 gallon tank like in my 20CC. What I'm saying is it won't lift straight up and out. The deck opening is too small. You have to flip/rotate it 90 degrees so it is resting on the front side. Try to pull it straight out if you can, but if you can't, do this. Undo the tank hoses and brackets. Get some straps and work one down the port and starboard tank ends and under the tank so you have 2 ends coming out the transom side and the other 2 ends out to front/bow side Use the straps to help flip the tank over on the front. Then use the straps to pull the tank straight up and out. Pay attention here, this is VERY IMPORTANT! be very careful flipping the tank when you're taking it out and putting it back in. The reason, at least on a 20 footer is it is so tight. The aerator pipes run down the transom wall and the tank tends to get jammed up against them when you are flipping it. My experience doing this seems that you have more wiggle room if you flip it on the front side. The pipes are made of PVC and will crack or break if you put too much pressure on them. Unfortunately that happens a lot, but I have flipped a 32 gallon tank 2 times in an 20XD and a 25 gallon in a 20CC twice BY-MYSELF w/o breaking or cracking a pipe. You don't want to go through that trouble only to have to do it again because you aerator pipes are leaking. This is what I use to glue the transducer in. It mixes with no bubbles like epoxy has and bubbles are what kills sonar sensitivity. it goes in the little soap tray looking thing. Scuff the transducer and the tray w/800 grit snad paper to aid adhesiveness.

Just to follow up for future use, on mine the automatic bilge pump hose would not allow the tank to rotate. It went through the stbd fore/aft stiffener too close to the tank. Disconnected and rerouted aft and things were good. Definetly easier with 2 people though.![]()
take 2 nylon straps,1 per side and run the screws thru them back into were the aluminum hold down brackets were and use them as handles on a 21'. Pump out till about 10 gallons of fuel are left and lift. fairly simple. Takes longer to pump the gas out![]()
