    Motor Opinion

I want everyone's input on this. I want to get a new motor and am debating between having Simon motorsports working their magic on my XB OR buying a new 300xs. I know alot of the pros and cons but any input is appreciated!!

    Re: Motor Opinion (Hydrilla)

I voted for the total Simonized over-haul

...but if I am not mistaken I think Eric might be able to work the 300xs too

...so if thats the case then you can get the 300xs and still have Eric work his magic.

    Best of both worlds

I THINK the 300xs is currently only good for bout 335. The 300x or 3.0litre platform can push 1 or 2 more horsepower

So at the end of the day its going to come to what you want to use the rig for and whats it capable of. I don't know wich hull your running but I don't think there is any reason to build a monster and strap to a hull thats gunna be a waist. Your going to burn fuel... The 300xs may get you to the numbers you are comfortable with and when mid throttle save on fuel. So Do you want to race and bust big numbers OR do you want to mainly fish and play only sometimes??

No, he is just wanting to see what the guys intentions are to help decide which motor would be the best fit for him......

And if I bought a new 300xs.....there isn't a chance in hell that I would modify it until it was out of warranty. Simon is great on motors.....but warranty is warranty

The Simon 3.0 will be faster and sound nastier if thats what you are looking for; but it is way harder on go-go juice... The 300XS should be plenty fast and much more civilized in its manners and drinking ...

    Re: Motor Opinion (canadablazer)

    Merc97,

I was just taking a shot at Rich since he is always running around so fast himself (faster than me anyway...maybe that why I buy all his props when he is done with them...lol).

But I do have a question for ya. Why are guys always so hung up on the warranty issue. When I bought my 225efi new I had a 2 year warranty and when I bought my next motor for Eric to simoinize it had no warranty but Eric gave me his personal 2 year warranty so in theory If I had a new 300xs I would let Eric simoinze it ASAP cause I'm sure as hell know his 2 year warranty would get me better service than trying to get merc to do anything.

Guess my point is Eric is the best of the best, not just on building a motor, but in customer service. He would never leave a customer hanging, I know if I had a problem with my motor 5 years from now he would be all over getting back to right.

But back to the topic at hang....I do agree that both the 300xs or the simonized motor will give you plenty of power and speed....

If I am not mistaken you have a 20ft bullet right Ian?

Shot to the ribs taken I know what your saying Chris however to some warranty is peace of mind. You could look at it like this as well. #00xs gets 2 years factory. Two years goes by pretty fast. You paid for that two years when you bought the 300xs. Take the two years to get used to the boat, set up, play, etc. Not much to be done to the 300XS platform at this time for MAJOR performance gains. Maybe Simon will have more mods developed in those two years. NOW Simon says bring that bad boy down and I will pump 375 reliable out of her and slap another personal 2 years warranty on her. BING BANG BOOM. You know have had 2 years factory and are getting another personal 2 years from Simon. Your 300xs has now had or is getting 4 years Thats my logic any how

Also the factory warranty is going to cover more then Simons. I am sure He will only cover what he has put his hands on. If anything else breaks and the motor is modded and in factory warranty, your going to have to dance to get Merc to cover it.

Simmon 3.0+ if your wantting to get NASTY

Stock 300xs if your wanting to play day to day

Yup, you are right Rich....never thought about the idea of it turning 4 years of warranty...makes more sense that way for sure.

Yep, Chris it is a 20ft. This is great guys! I am really getting some good info here!! I am now more torn than ever!! I am not really concerned about fuel consumption, if I was I am in the wrong hobby! I just don't like the Optimax' #6 go boom tendencies (just from what I have read on here) But the XB is an older motor and where do you stop putting money into it! However, I know when the XB fires up it is getting lots of gas and oil!! Keep it comin' guys!!

You could keep what you have and gain 10 mph while increasing your fuel economy.

Trade your Bullet for an XB2002

I am totally kidding with you. This is a great thread with valid points from both sides

    Ian,

I read one of your setup posts not long ago. Didn't I read you were only running around 81ish or so? If so, you haven't come close to maximizing what you have already.

    Re: (jowens)

Yep, I don't quite understand it I can run 81 with a 30 Bravo 1" above or 81 with a 27 TXP oT4 (loaded with two guys) 1 1/4" above and that seems to be it I am not on the limiter yet but around 5900 with 14psi. I haven't had much time this summer (new baby) to play with setup but my best is 87, 1" above light load with the Bravo. Maybe it is the driver but it seems that the bow is nicely lifted compared to the Bravo and the motor is a little above neutral trim.

    Re: (FirefighterIan)

The Bravo will give you more stern lift where the TXP will lift the bow more. The TXP will hold the boat better with a load cause of its blade area compared to the Bravo 1..

    Re: (BULLETRM)

I had a bad 250XB and it would get it done. With the money you would spend on mods and what you could sell the XB for as is you could about pay for a 300XS. The 300XS I have now is off about 2 mph with about 10 hours on it but I go fishing 7 times on a tank of gas and a gallon of oil Plus it is under warranty so I don't listen for funny sounds all the time. Wouldn't go back for nothing.
