Pulled tank; WTF is that noise???

Okay guys riddle me this. I pulled my tank and I could hear something rattling around in there. I looked through the filler neck and I could see an approx. 2" long by 1" cylinder with a foot of about 2 1/2" by 1/4" rolling around in there. Is this the fuel pickup foot? Or what else could it be. I don't think I could get a pic because of the tight quarters. If anyone knows what this is a fix would be helpful. Can I remove the plate with the pickup on it? And how would I go about resealing it once done? The boat is a 1995 20XDC. And P.S. it still looks brand new in there!! What a boat!! I'll NEVER own another brand!!!

Sounds like the pick up, you can take off the sender assembly and reuse the rubber seal thats on it unless you tear it up while its out. shouldnt be an issue though.

May be the float of the fuel guage sending unit or an old one that was left in,, does the fuel guage work??

Lou, the guage still works and I could see the float in there. So it seems to maybe be the foot. Any advice?

I have never done it but seems like the only thing to do now is pull off the plate holding down fuel pick up and reinstal, but try to figure out why it came off.. Another thought is to get a teliscoping mechanics mirror and see if there is a foot on the pick up tube before ya start..

Anyone else have this problem before??

It's probably the bottom off the pick-up tube. Just pull the plate for the sending unit. I took the plate off mine several times. Gives you a good hand hold when pulling the tank. Are you up in Pet?
